There’s a YouTube guy who owns a record store. I watch his videos sometimes. He’ll talk about the horse trading of getting rare records. The funny thing about those stories is he’ll always say, “a buddy of mine sold me this.”

I chuckle at this because it sounds like he gave his buddy a six-pack and a pizza and his buddy gave him this crazy rare record. In actuality, he gave this person thousands of dollars. In return, this person gave him a record.

There are times when I listen to those stories, and the friendliness of the whole transaction frustrates me. “He’s not your friend,” I’ll say. “He’s selling you something!” Then again, it does seem like a nice way to live. Doing business with folks you consider friends, paying a fair price, and walking away still being able to call that person a friend.

Seems like a fine life indeed.
