In one of my first conversations with the Gatherly (acquired) (Chris Cherian, carl liu, Sohan Choudhury, et al) crew, I asked them where they came up with the idea. The paraphrased answer, we thought we could build a virtual conference platform in the style of the video games we played.
I liked that. They were a group of college kids building something from their perspective.
When I first met Daksh Gupta he was building a text message marketing platform for the SMB space.
I didn’t like that. It wasn’t original and he wasn’t passionate about it.
Thankfully, they pivoted to Greptile and are building a rocketship powered by passion.
I say all this to say that’s the excitement of Georgia Tech CREATE-X and the founders they support. When you’ve got the energy and unique perspective to take big swings you should do it. There are plenty of folks trying to improve a process or industry. Those folks have the industry experience and connections to make those small changes work. Good for them.
You don’t know no better and that’s a great gift. Go build big, weird things.
