If you play the new Beatles doc backward you’ll hear, “Paul is right.”

That’s my late to the game, still haven’t finished the entire doc take.

Early on, Paul and George are arguing over how to write a song.* Paul wants to play the basic song a dozen times in a row. Once they get the basics down then the strange and interesting will appear.

George wants to go line by line making each perfect before going to the next.

George’s method is where madness lies. Paul is right. I think a lot of creativity is getting all the basics squared away so your brain can wander to the strange.

* The fact that the Beatles are on their last album and still arguing over how to write a song is strange to me. Always evolving methods are good and maddening at the same time.
